I am a foreign student looking for health insurance while studying in the United States. What type of insurance do you offer and does it meet my school's minimum requirements (i.e. for emergency medical evacuation, repatriation, accident and sickness)?

Answer: Each school has different minimum medical insurance requirements. Please refer to the "Medical Expense", "Sublimits", and "Emergency Evacuation" sections of the International Student and Scholar enrollment brochure for specific information to compare with your school's minimum requirements.

I will be a cultural exchange participant in the U.S. this summer and am in the process of applying for my J-1 visa. What type of insurance do you offer and does it meet the minimum State Department J visa requirements (i.e. for emergency medical evacuation, repatriation, accident and sickness coverage)?

Answer: We meet or exceed the standards required of J visa holders as specified by the U.S. Department of State. Please refer to the "Medical Expense", "Sublimits", and "Emergency Evacuation" sections of the International Student and Scholar enrollment brochure for specific information.

I am a foreign student on an F-1 visa. I have health insurance through my university in the U.S. However, my wife will be arriving in the U.S. on an F-2 visa and would like to purchase insurance. Can she enroll in the International Student and Scholar plan?

Answer: No, CISI will only enroll dependents of students covered under a CISI plan whether on an individual or group plan.

Does the insurance need to be paid in full, or can I pay it on a monthly basis?

Answer: If you are looking to enroll in the International Student and Scholar plan, you may purchase a minimum of three months at a time. We recommend you mark "Yes" on the renewal portion of the application. This will allow us to send you a renewal notice before your insurance expires.

I am a foreign student and my relatives are visiting me on a tourist visa. What type of insurance coverage can you provide for them?

Answer: The insurance coverage we provide is specifically designed for U.S. citizens who are studying abroad or international students and scholars entering the United States on an F-1, J-1, or M-1 visa. If you are looking for health insurance coverage for a visiting relative, tthen we recommend CareMed. I am not a U.S. citizen, but I will be studying/working outside of the United States. Can I enroll in your plan?
